Ron Chauvel's 38 1/4 incher from Clear Fork!

My partner David Foor and I split the guided party of four anglers into two boats and we fished hard all weekend. These guys were tons of fun, and very good fishermen! They picked up handling the baitcasting gear quickly, and asked a lot of good questions to boot. We were fishing amidst the Chapter 41 Musky Tournament up there and had a lot of musky pressure, primarily from trollers.

On Saturday morning, one of my clients, Ron (from the San Francisco area), caught and released a 38 1/4" musky, his biggest fish ever, while casting a Super Stalker crankbait along a shallow, tapered weed edge on an inside turn off of the main lake. We managed to raise one other mid-thirties inch fish that followed one of Dave's anglers Hell Hound jerk baits in and that was it. Very brisk and cool east winds, combined with a five degree drop in water temps in two days led to tough conditions, as evidenced by the fact that the tournament boats managed a 31"er and a 30 1/2" incher in two days.
